Colț Monastery

When visiting Colţ Monastery, you will also see the fortress bearing the same name, built on the nearby cliffs.  They both keep, between the traces of the walls, stories from the unsafe times of the Middle Age. In those days, the robberies and the battles were so often so that the fortifications were a need.
Therefore, even the monastery has a fortified tower, where the monks used to keep their valuables and sheltered themselves in times of danger.  The tower has thick walls and windows, of fortification. The entrance of the tower was above the ground level. Getting to the door required climbing a timber ladder which was removed at nightfall or in times of danger.
